Remember Hugh Jackman? The X-Men star has had 6 surgeries to remove a spot on his nose since being first diagnosed with skin cancer in 2013. His message? Use sunscreen. We found that we really need more sunscreen than we think, and tanning oil doesn’t cut it!

Look out for SPF that is broad spectrum – shielding you against both UVA and UVB rays. Coat yourself well to keep sunburns, premature aging and cancer at bay.

Those with sensitive skin should opt for physical or mineral sunscreens that contain zinc oxide and titanium dioxide to block out UV rays. Avoid chemical sunscreens that may increase your risks of skin cancer. They contain ingredients like oxybenzone and avobenzene which absorb energy into your skin.

As the SPF value increases, the amount of protection only increases by a bit. No sunscreen can fully protect you from the sun’s rays! Use a sunscreen with at least an SPF of 30.

Have your body adequately covered 20 minutes before going outdoors with 2-3 tablespoons of sunscreen. Have at least a teaspoon of it on your face.

The lotion is not waterproof, so applying once isn’t enough. Reapply every 2 hours when you’re out. Massage it onto your scalp and behind your ears too! Don’t forget to get a lip balm with SPF protection as well.

You should always slather some on even on a cloudy day, because a startling 80 percent of the UV rays still get through the clouds.

Start including sunscreens into your shopping list, because it’s definitely one product that you shouldn’t be skimping and saving on.
