Peel Fresh: DIY Peels For A Clearer & Brighter Complexion Instantly - By Vanessa Chia
Four chemical and mechanical peels to try for clear, soft and smooth skin.
LABORATOIRES FILORGA Paris SLEEP AND PEEL®
A night-time moisturiser that gently resurfaces the skin while you sleep so you wake to a smoother (less fine lines) and radiant (less pigmentation) complexion thanks to the use of its combination of six AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) and BHAs (Beta Hydroxy Acids).
Surprisingly, this works quite well for blemish-prone skins, like mine. With its gentle resurfacing properties, skin texture is refined over time, reducing the appearance of enlarged pores while removing dead skin cells and even impurities from clogged pores too. Really like that it’s a night-time moisturiser alternative so it’s great for busy (or lazy) individuals who prefer a simple fuss-free skincare routine.

philosophy the micro delivery resurfacing peel
A two-phase peeling treatment, the first contains a Vitamin C and Peptide enriched crystal scrub while the second is a Lactic and Salicylic Acid activating gel. When combined together, they work to refine the skin texture, reducing the appearance of pores, fine lines and wrinkles.
It can get a little messy with the removal of the crystals and gel, which is why I tend to prefer chemical exfoliators or peels. Out of the four in this review, this also had me staying in the bathroom the longest — even though it was only for about five minutes — as I had to wait for the gel to work with the crystal scrub/mask and then ensure that everything was thoroughly rinsed off. But while was really good as it left my skin visibly smoother and brighter with just one use, it was sadly a little strong for my sensitive skin, as it was a little red and patchy after use.

SKIN INC Pure Revival Peel
A non-abrasive peeling gel that uses a unique water-based formula and Smart Peel technology to remove dead skin cells while detoxifying the skin and strengthening the skin’s collagen and elastin for a smooth complexion. Also contains antioxidant-rich Fullerene and brightening Arbutin to protect and brighten the skin tone as well.
One of my faves. I’ve been using this for a few years and I like how it’s really gentle on the skin, which is great for blemish-prone and sensitive complexions like mine. It also doesn’t leave the skin feeling dry and tight after, but instead leaves it soft and smooth. Makeup also goes on easily after too.
But if you want to upgrade the effects of this, try the Skin Inc Oxy-Recharge Bubble Mask that combines the same Smart Peel technology together with a bubbling foam to detoxify and deep cleanse the skin from within.

Saturday Skin Rub-a-Dub Refining Peel Gel
A peeling gel that uses natural fruit enzymes — Papaya and Pineapple, to slough off dead skin cells to reveal a smoother and brighter complexion.
The gel has a slight grainy texture, which boosts the peel effect with a mechanical action of sloughing off dead skin cells upon rubbing. There is a subtle citrus scent, which is quite pleasant too. With the texture, I had to be careful not to over-scrub the skin as it can leave sensitive skins a little red and feeling a tad bit raw. However, it is still gentle enough for twice weekly use. Most importantly, it comes with a pocket-friendly price tag.
