You are excited to board the flight for your long-awaited holiday trip or back home, then you receive a really bad piece of news - your flight got delayed, or cancelled due to an unexpected mechanical hiccup or the bad weather.


Your traveling dreams have just turned into a nightmare, now you have plenty of time to kill at the airport. Here, we have put together the best essential tips for coping with this mishap.

1. Hurry To The Help Desk


Once you are aware that your flight is delayed or cancelled, proceed immediately to the nearest airline desk or contact the airline for solutions. The usual practice is that the representative will book you onto the next available flight. Also, do a check how long you will be stranded in the airport and most importantly the whereabouts of your lugagge.

2. Best Time To Use Your Phone


If you find yourself stuck in the long queue, wait no longer and contact the airline hotline immediately or do a check on the airline’s website or mobile app to see if its possible to make a booking yourself without any extra charges. Don’t forget to keep in touch with your loved ones to keep them updated on your arrival.

3. Know Your Entitlements


Once you’ve confirmed your new flight details, check with the airline if there are any additional potential compensation such as complimentary hotel stays or food vouchers. Usually food vouchers will be issued if you have to wait in the airport for a couple of hours. Depending on the nature of the flight delay or cancellation, passengers get compensated differently.
