"Why are you a vegetarian?", "Really never eat meat before?", "Won't get tempted meh?", "Is your boyfriend/husband vegetarian too?". Blah blah blah.

These are just some of the questions I get so often and I believe many of you are curious about the vegetarian diet.

Since I was 5 years old, my family and I started our journey of vegetarianism. I was so young back then so it wasn't difficult for me to change and I don't remember how meat or seafood tastes like. Tempted to try? Not exactly, but I do wonder how it tastes like. It is kinda amazing too as I am able to sense if there are any uneatables in our dishes and my husband will be my meat (mine) detector. 90% of the times I am right.

Yes you guessed it, my husband isn't a vegetarian as I believe being together we need to have mutual respect. It all boils down to individual preference. Though he isn't vegetarian, he loves to explore vegetarian makan places together and doesn't force me to consume meat. That's already a blessing to me.

What are the challenges I face as a vegetarian? Like many others, we face lots of makan challenges especially when it comes to social gatherings. Usually I am more worried whether the food suits my friends' palettes if we go to a vegetarian food joint. Lol.

Another challenge is when we travel overseas. The best country to travel to if you are vegetarian is Taiwan; There are so many vegetarian eateries over there and their food is totally yummy-licious! As for other countries I have been to like Australia and Hong Kong, just ensure you do a bit of research and you'll be able to find really good vegetarian food joints.

One tip to share if you are trying to adopt a vegetarian diet, don't force yourself to eat too much vegetables (if you aren't a fan of it). Simply enjoy the process by exploring some dishes with mixtures of mock meats (many of my friends say some mock meat actually tastes like real meat!).

And lucky for me, in Singapore we are considered fortunate with quite an extensive number of vegetarian food joints to suit even international tastebuds!

These are just some of the places I visit for a meat-free diet that I enjoy and often bring my friends to. Leave a comment below to share your experience if you've dined at these places before!
