Smooth, porcelain, fair and radiant skin never goes out of style. We discuss the latest trends in creating this effect. With or without make-up, get ready to dazzle all around you as we celebrate beauty in you.

Home care

Good skincare routine is the basis of great skin and great skin is your best primer / foundation.

In Singapore with our high sun intensity all year round, use a sunscreen with SPF of at least 50 daily.  80% of sun exposure is incidental so block up rain or shine, indoors or outdoors. Pick one that is not too heavy on skin and that glides on effortlessly and easily absorbed. A good sunscreen should not leave skin feeling oily and sticky. For Asian skintypes, it is best to use a tinted sunscreen to better blend in with our natural skintone and avoid that “halloween” effect. If you are planning to be out in the sun for extended periods, pop in an oral sunscreen supplement (yes, a little known fact but they do exist) and a fully covered broad-rimmed or SPF hat for that extra dose of protection. Prevention is always better than cure – it can take a day for a freckle to form but extended laser treatments to correct it.

Defy the signs of ageing with a proper skincare routine / professional care.

Be sure to use a good quality make-up remover / cleansing oil and facial cleanser at the end of the day, followed by a toner to remove any other impurities. An alcohol-free toner also forms the key for all your serums and creams to penetrate the dermis evenly and deeply. Get the most out of your skincare products by systematically layering them on for maximum absorption.

Professional options

Go for regular facial and chemical peel treatments. Only a properly trained facial therapist can cleanse, steam and extract clogged pores and rebalance your skin health to its peak. The mark of a good therapist lies in the extraction technique; if done properly, extractions are relatively comfortable and will not leaving you screaming in pain. Whilst it is tempting to squeeze congested pores on your own, untrained hands often leave the pores still clogged up and even worse, inflamed and infection prone – so, stick to the professionals. Whilst classic spa facials are relaxing and therapeutic, clinical facials are specifically focused on delivering results and correcting problems at a more intense level. Peels should be incorporated into your regime to resurface dead skin and optimize absorption of products – contrary to some belief, peels are beneficial for even sensitive skin types.

There are many new treatments in the market to achieve smooth porcelain skin. The latest in the field of medical lasers is the picosecond laser, which promises all the benefits of the best that a laser treatment can give, without the downtime associated with the older generation of lasers. Fine lines, dark circles, acne scars, open pores are all addressed with the right laser treatment. For saggy skin, there are non-invasive treatments such as radiofrequency treatments (Thermage, Exilis), focused ultrasound treatment (Ulthera, HIFU). This keeps skin always taut, fights the effects of ageing and gravity. For unwanted double chin, you can even freeze away your extra fat safely. Skinboosters injections help to super-hydrate skin for that dewy smooth result.
