Thursday, October 11, 2018

We’ve all been there, having to buy falsies and taking up time trying to apply it. But right now, why the need to splurge on falsies as well as mascaras that ‘promises’ long lashes effect?

By now, many of you have heard and seen eyelash extensions. Long and thick eyelash with no use of mascara or falsies. Eyelash extensions are highly rave until today and is considered one of the top beauty trends here in Singapore.

What’s Eyelash Extensions?

Eyelash extensions are semi-permanent extensions adhered to your natural lash. There are many various types of curls and lengths to it. When making an appointment for it, it’s best to listen to the technician's recommendation.

The method of applying it on is using an adhesive glue to individually stick them to the eyelashes one-by-one.

The prices can range from $100 to $500 depending on the type of lashes you desire, beauty salon and skills of the technician. However be wary when you want to get extensions at cheap prices. Not all procedures has a positive outcome. At cheaper prices, the salon might be using cheaper adhesive glue or low quality lashes that will cause discomfort.

Type of eyelash extension

There are 3 types of eyelash extensions.

Synthetic lashes

They are made from polished, acrylic material and are stiff-looking. Known to create bold and dramatic look while holding curls extremely well due to their firmness. Ladies with healthy and dense eyelash would look fantastic with synthetic lashes.

Silk lashes

It’s an ideal option for ladies with thin natural eyelashes. Since its light and soft, the silk lashes provide natural yet fuller lash appearance. Because they are softer, silk lashes tend to hold slightly longer than synthetic lashes. Likewise with synthetic, silk lashes comes in various lengths and curls.

Mink lashes

Some are made artificially while others are real fur. Unbelievably much more softer and finer than silk lashes, they need proper care for them to last long. The mink lashes requires longer time to apply because of how fine they are.

The Procedure

The procedure can take up from one to two hours. Before coming in, any eye makeup must be removed. The eyelash extensions are then applied by attaching single lashes one-by-one to the natural lashes.

The whole process will be done with your eyes closed thus adding a whole new meaning to ‘beauty sleep’.

Maintaining and/or aftercare tips

The aftercare step is crucial to prolong your new lashes. So, avoid using any mechanical lash-curler, any mascara and oil-based makeup cleansers. Basically let your eyes be makeup free if you want to extend the lashes’ life!

It’s recommended to go for touch-up appointments after 3 to 4 weeks as your eyelashes tend to fall off (depending on how well you maintain it). Also, keep your lashes dry for at least 24 hours for the glue to set.

Gently brush your lashes with a mascara wand to groom them – never over brush. After showers are the best time to do it, as they will be softer and less likely to damage.
