The battle between tinted moisturisers, BB/CC creams and cushion compacts — Which Works Best?

IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better™ CC+™ Cream with SPF 50+

The Promise:
Developed together with leading plastic surgeons, this highly pigmented CC Cream not only covers blemishes and evens out the skin tone, but also contains hydrating and anti-ageing ingredients (Niacin, Peptides, Antioxidants and Vitamins) to keep complexion smooth, radiant and flawless.

The Verdict: Its buildable coverage allows you to either lightly even out the complexion or have an almost medium cover that conceals light blemishes. Dark under-eye circles, unfortunately, will still need a proper concealer to conceal.

For a CC Cream, the coverage is pretty long-lasting and gives complexion an instant glow too. Plus, I’m a big fan of its high sun-protecting properties.

Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF30

The Promise:
A multi-purpose product, it’s not only a primer, but also doubles up as a moisturiser and light foundation too. It contains a Triple B Complex, botanical extracts and Lipo-amino Acids to brighten the skin tone and reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles at the same time.

The Verdict: If skin is relatively blemish-free, this is good enough as it gives a light coverage to brighten and even out the complexion. If not, it makes for a good makeup base before foundation application. It also gives a silky finish, which instantly blurs away lines and wrinkles. But for me, there’s a slight silicone-y finish that I’m unfortunately not a fan of.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Skin Perfector

The Promise:
A skin tint that evens out the skin tone while giving the complexion a soft glow. The result of which is having been tested with a 4K camera to ensure that it blurs out imperfections for a smooth and flawless finish.

The Verdict: One of my favourites from this bunch. I get complements each time I wear this out as my skin has never looked smoother or more radiant. Perfect to wear alone as it offers a lightweight yet buildable coverage, but also works as a good base for foundation application.

The only downside for me is that it only comes with a SPF25/PA++ sun protection, which means I have to double up on the sunscreen application prior.

Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion Intense

The Promise:
Infused with anti-ageing ingredients — Red Pine, Plum Blossom extract and Radiance Pearl Powder complex, this cushion compact not only evens out the complexion but also reverses the signs of ageing while protecting it from free radical damages at the same time.

The Verdict: The formula is slightly thicker than most cushion compacts, but the results are amazing! It evens out the complexion easily and hardly any concealer is needed, except for pesky dark under-eye circles that might need a bit more help. The finish is luminous and long-lasting, which means little to no touch-up throughout the day. Also comes with high SPF properties, which is always a plus in my books.

HERA BLACK CUSHION SPF 34/PA++

The Promise:
A lightweight long-wearing cushion foundation that gives a soft, powdery matte finish thanks to the use of Ultrafine Powder Dispersion and Double Lasting Layer technologies, and Matte Finish Gel. Together, the coverage is more even and adheres better to the skin for a long-lasting wear.

The Verdict: A good balance of coverage and dewiness, this is great for normal to combination or slightly oilier skin types. Its soft matte finish is also ideal for Singapore’s hot and humid weather. Really like that this blends easily to give a flawless coverage without feeling heavy yet still gives complexion a gentle glow.
