Washing your hair isn’t simply about getting the dirt and grime out of your scalp. Hair washing definitely takes more than simply shampooing and conditioning. Read on to find out how to keep your hair in tip-top shape by following these easy hair-washing tips.

Tip 1: Detangle when it’s dry

This tip is especially useful for those with flowy locks. Give your tresses a good brush to detangle the knots before getting under the shower. Wet hair is going to be a pain – literally – to comb through. Your hair is weaker when its wet, leaving it to be more vulnerable to breakage. You’ll be doing yourself a great favour by using a wide-toothed comb to smoothen out the tangled mess before you start shampooing.

Tip 2: Oil your hair before you wash

It may be counterproductive, but this step may be a game-changer especially if your have dry and damaged hair. Oiling your hair before a wash can give you the soft tresses that you so badly desire.

Add natural oils such as argan, pure almond, and coconut oils into your hair wash routine by massaging it into your scalp and ends 15 minutes before hopping into the shower.

Tip 3: Pick the right shampoo

If you’re just out of the salon with a fresh dye, have dry hair or sensitive skin, head straight to the nearest store and get a bottle of sulfate-free shampoo! Sulfate formulas tend to fade colour, dry out your hair more quickly, and irritate your scalp. Grab a bottle of clarifying shampoo too! Your regular shampoo and conditioner aren’t going to do a great job in cleaning out your scalp.

Tip 4: Shampoo the right way

You should not be using more than one pump of shampoo. Focus on cleaning out your scalp and not the ends of your hair. Scrubbing aggressively at the roots is only going to irritate your skin. It isn’t going to make it any cleaner, although it definitely feels like it.

Try your hand at co-washing if you have frizzy and brittle hair. Those with fine hair may find reverse washing extremely useful in giving a more voluminous look. Never skip the conditioner!

Tip 5: Don’t wash too frequently

Over washing is one of the main reasons why our hair isn’t looking its best. This means that you don’t have to shampoo it everyday! Washing too often will only dry out your scalp, which in turn stimulates the production of more oil. Not sure how how often you should wash your hair? Check this out! You don’t need to rely on hair products to rock incredible hair. Sometimes all you need is to kick the old habits and start getting the basics right.
