4 Ways To Deal With Sunburns
Sometimes we forget our sunscreen, while other times we don’t reapply sun protection frequently enough. If you feel that you are like a walking piece of char siew, you can try the following remedies!
1. Cold Compression
Swelling and burning sensation is certainly not a pleasant experience. Seek a quick fix using a cold compress – leave an iced cold towel on the affected areas for around 15 minutes.
2. Apply Rolled Oats
To relieve itching and inflammation, grind one cup of whole rolled oats into a powder, cook it and make it into a paste. Let it cool before applying a liberal amount on your sunburnt skin and leave it on for around 20 minutes before rinsing with cool water.
3. Black Tea
You can use black tea too! Steep a few tea bags until the solution turns dark and let the liquid cool before soaking a washcloth and let it rest over the affected areas for half an hour. But don’t squeeze it dry though. The tannins in black tea ease the heat and inflammation on your skin.
4. Aloe Vera
Always remember to moisturize, and its best to do it right after a shower while your skin is still moist. Aloe vera is a great option to soothe inflammation. However, avoid petroleum jelly, which retains heat in the skin and may cause further irritation.
Last but not least, to reduce the risks of infection, don’t pick at the blisters or peel the skin. Let it dry and shed naturally. The itch may get overbearing, but keep your fingers off your skin. Stick to loose outfits as tight ones can worsen itching.
We’re sure that you won’t ever forget or skip the sunscreen ritual again after your first experience with sunburns.
