As the COVID-19 outbreak continues worldwide, most of us are trying our best to prevent the spread of virus by adjusting to life indoors. Here’s what I’m trying to do in the days and weeks ahead to keep my loved ones and community safe.
1.Working Out at Home, but Not the Gym
Gyms can be a ‘high risk’ spot for the disease to spread as people come and go. With close contact, sharing of equipments that have high contact surfaces and heavy breathing, the gym can be a minefield and we should be extra cautious. Instead of visiting the gym, I’ve started to work out at home. There are lots of workout tutorials which I can find on YouTube and it doesn’t require me to own any equipments. My favourite routine now has got to be leg lifts, planks, squats, mountain climbers and sit-ups.
2. Not Attending Any Large-scale Gatherings
Many companies and schools have suspended large gatherings as part of enhanced measure to prevent the spread. To play my part, I would politely reject any events or parties that is a large or medium scale gathering and stay at home as much as possible. I’m definitely bummed out by the decision but it is important to practice social distancing to limit the spread.
3. Abstain Myself from Visiting Elderly Relatives
People over 60, especially over 80, have higher risk of suffering complications from this virus due to weaker immune system. Hence, I try to minimise my visits or stop visiting my elderly relatives for the time being. We should do our best to priorities the vulnerable, especially those with underlying medical conditions.
4. Washing Our Hands Frequently
One of the easiest, cheapest and most important ways to avert coronavirus spread is to wash your hands regularly with water and soap. All family members should wash their hands well and often especially after they got home from outdoors, after blowing nose, cough or sneeze, after using the washroom, before and after eating. To eliminate all traces of virus, you need to wash your hands thoroughly. Here’s how you can do it:
Step 5: Dry hands with a clean cloth or single-use towel
If washing hands is not possible, you can use a hand sanitiser to keep your hands clean. Sample Store carries a couple of hand sanitisers that are effective in eliminating germs and bacteria, and yet, are not drying to your hands. You can check them out here.
5. Wear A Mask When You’re Outside
Since the government has emphasised on the importance to wear a face mask, it is necessary for us to adhere and continue to practice this precaution that is already in place. Instead of wearing masks that are made of thin material which means poor filterability, I choose ShieldMask+.
ShieldMask+ is a 4-layer mask that helps to prevent the transmission of virus from the wearer to others — putting on the face mask not only protects you, it protects the people around you as well. Crafted with 4 layers, ShieldMask+ is thicker, more fitted and provides wearers with excellent protection. The outer layer repels moisturise particles (special moisture wicking fabric flown in from the USA), the second and third layer are made of protective films (DOUBLE that of surgical mask), and the fourth layer is made of antibacterial soft bamboo fabric which cares for your skin. Despite having 4 layers, the face mask will not restrict your breathing in any way. The comfortable mask also comes with adjustable strap to ensure a good fit.
You can purchase ShieldMask+ here.
